Community based projects...

Surfcamp Lombok has since the start cared about the local community and will continue to address local needs, as it is of high priority to maintain a positive relationship with the Gerupuk village and its people. Activities concern community service and action such as improvements within fields of education, health, and the environment through self-help. We will post our upcoming projects in the news section, visit surfcamplombokfoundation.org for more information.

Finished and ongoing projects so far include organizing a free of charge Surf Rescue and Life Saving Course for boat captains and surf guides in Gerupuk village, the buidling of a community center and the drilling of a well at the local school. Furthermore, a school garden has been made thanks to cooperation between Surfcamp Lombok and the World Food Programme. The area is classified as “food insecure”  and school gardens have shown to serve as an educational tool in order to learn about nutrition. English classes for the local kids after school hours have been offered at the camp, which have become a popular event. Surfcamp Lombok has also founded a scholarship for girls who would like to continue their studies at college level, as their chances of obtaining a higher education is less compared to boys. As the coral reef is of crucial importance for both fishermen and surfers, Surfcamp Lombok has placed mooring buoys at one of the surf spots, as an alternative to throw anchor and cause damage. At the moment, Surfcamp Lombok is looking in to the possibilities to offer surf packages combined with meaningful volunteer work towards the community.
